The
most extraordinary witness of Lecce Baroque is given
by the Basilica of the Holy Cross.
Its construction began at the half of 16th century and
concluded with the end of the 17th century. In fact on its
façade one can see several styles which followed one after
the other over the centuries: from the lower part of the
façade to the upper one, one can notice a passage from a simple and bare
structure to a decorative typically baroque excess. Of course the nature of
the soft Lecce stone favoured these results.
