Among
the most beautiful
period pictures of the city
we find this print of Santo
Oronzo Square. The
Roman column sustains
the statue of Saint Oronzo,
principal patron Saint of
Lecce. The picture shows
the image of the square at
the beginning of the 20th
century. Its peculiarity is
due to the fact that it is
antecedent to the discovery
of the Roman Amphitheatre, brought to light again in the 1930's. In fact, this
amphitheatre doesnt lie at the foot of the
column.
